Content vs. Behavioral Interpretation
By Robal Johnson

The essence of behavioral interviewing lies in understanding the concept of:

Content vs. Behavioral Interpretation

When "A" Talks to "B", "B" Interprets Content and/or Behavior.
Content is what "A" is Saying to "B" i.e., What a Person Says.
Behavior is What Kind of Person is "A"
i.e., What Kind of Person is Talking.

Example: "This is a great book."
Content Interpretation: I'd love to buy the book.
Behavioral Interpretation: This person has a positive attitude.

Behavioral Interpretation (Interviewing) Depends On:

  • Frequency of the Message
  • The Words Chosen (17%)
  • Body Language & Tone of Voice (83%)
